Milestones & Accolades
Since our founding in 2004, the Caregiving Welfare Association (CWA) has steadily grown in reach and impact — driven by our mission to empower caregivers and support seniors in ageing well within the community. Below is a timeline of key initiatives, expansions, and recognitions over the years.
Launch of Preventative Care Programmes
Marked a milestone in preventative care with the launch of our Community Health Post and Remote Monitoring & Support Programme, enabling seniors to take charge of their health and receive timely support from the community.
Renovation of CWA Headquarters
Completed in May 2023, the renovated CWA headquarters marked a new chapter, enhancing our space and capacity for all programmes and services.
Reopening of Drop-in Centre
With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, CWA reopened its Drop-in Centre — reviving suspended programmes and providing renewed support to socially isolated seniors.
Launch of Caregiver’s Corner (Editorial Page)
A dedicated Editorial Sub-Committee, led by Dr Daniel Tan, was formed to publish caregiver- and senior-centric articles monthly. Contributions include Board members and guest writers.
Senior Tele-Support Care Programme (Pilot)
A new initiative to offer regular follow-up calls by community nurses to address health needs of seniors via telehealth. (Deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic)
Community Outreach Programme (COP)
A dual-purpose initiative to:
- Identify isolated or vulnerable seniors and caregivers through door-to-door outreach
- Connect them to tailored CWA support via our Community Nurse and Allied Health team
Expansion at Ghim Moh
- A counselling room for social work support
- An activity room for senior engagement and caregiver programmes
Extended Home Personal Care (HPC) Hours
Responding to caregiver needs, HPC was extended to 8am–8pm and expanded to weekends (subject to manpower). This offered caregivers greater flexibility and relief during their off days.
Launch of Mind-Able Programme
A cognitive stimulation programme for seniors with or at risk of mild dementia.
Introduction of Home Personal Care (HPC)
Delivered by trained Community Caregivers (CCGs), this service provides personal hygiene, toileting, and transfer assistance for homebound seniors.
Opening of CWA Caregivers’ Sanctuary
A respite and resource space at One@KentRidge near NUH, officially opened by Mr Sim Gim Guan (CEO, NCSS).
Inaugural CWA Caregivers’ Week
Held from 5–11 November, the event engaged close to 100 caregivers and seniors through talks, workouts, and interactive activities. (Graced by MP Mr Christopher De Souza)
Launch of Eldersitter Programme
Provided seniors with companionship and cognitive engagement, while offering caregivers respite.
Community Mental Health Talks & Screenings
Conducted in collaboration with NUH to raise awareness and promote early detection of dementia.
Home Nursing Care Introduced
Offered in-home nursing services for frail, homebound seniors needing medical care outside institutions.
Online Counselling for Caregivers
Rolled out to give caregivers flexible, written access to professional support.
Caregiver Support Programme
- Ready to Care! — supported smooth transitions from hospital to home care
- CWA Caregiver Support Group — provided peer-sharing and learning for caregivers of seniors with physical or mental disabilities
Rebranding to Caregiving Welfare Association (CWA)
Formerly CCWA, the name change reflected a stronger focus on eldercare while continuing caregiver support.
Strategic Focus Set
Our work was structured under three pillars: Elderly Healthcare Assistance, Welfare & Social Support, and Education & Awareness.
Overseas Exchange Programme with South Korea
Hosted Gumi Council delegates to share insights on eldercare and assistive tools.
Caregiver Training Workshops & Resource Centre
Launched workshops and a resource hub to equip caregivers with practical skills and knowledge.
Opening of CCWA Centre for Seniors
Provided social activities and day support for seniors, easing caregiver burdens.
Caregiver Support Kit
Published the first Caregiver’s Handbook with practical home care tips and emotional guidance.
New Premises at Ghim Moh
Acquired a new space to house CWA’s office and Day Centre for Seniors.
National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) Grant
Received the New Initiative Grant (NIG) for community programmes.
National CSSP Award
Recognised for the Golden Ambassador Project in partnership with Buona Vista CCC.
Full NCSS Membership
Pilot Legal Advice Scheme (Law Society)
Matched with Kishan & V Surai Partnership to support VWOs in legal matters.
Launch of Generations as Partners Project
Intergenerational bonding programmes between youth and elderly.
Golden Ambassador Programme
Collaboration with Queenstown NPC to train volunteer caregivers in elder alert systems. (Launched by then-Environment Minister Mr Lim Swee Say)
